Freedom in Clearwater

With so many Scientologists living in Clearwater and the Tampa Bay area, since the spiritual headquarters of the Scientology religion is located there, there is a special edition of Freedom Magazine for that area.

Featured are stories of what members of the Church of Scientology of Tampa are doing to improve the quality of life in their community, such as the Scientology Anti-Drug campaign

It also covers international Scientology events such as the yearly event every March honoring the birth of L. RonHubbard, the founder of the Scientology religion, at which Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, is often the guest speaker.

Hungarian Freedom Magazine

With the fall of the Iron Curtain nearly 20 years ago came tremendous new freedom in Hungary - a country renowned for the love of freedom.

But riding the wave of new-found liberty came the West's worst contribution to humanity - the drug culture.

The fifth annual Anti-Drug Marathon of the Scientology anti-drug group in Hungary is an example of what Scientologists in that country are doing, working with the many dedicated individuals and groups in this country to protect youth from becoming enslaved by drugs.

The Hungarian edition of Freedom Magazine covers this story.

In his speech at the Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology of New York, Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, said drugs are one of "... the real Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse that plague this earth: Drugs, Illiteracy, Crime and Immorality."

North America's Crime of the Century

In latest version of Freedom Magazine, published by the Church of Scientology International is a story by Christine Hahn and Thomas G. Whittle where Freedom reveals that tens of thousands of “Duplessis Orphans” may have died or disappeared in Quebec’s psychiatric institutions.

What is perhaps the most shocking aspect of this story is that it has never come to light before.

The survivors call themselves the Duplessis Orphans, naming themselves after former Quebec Premier Maurice Duplessis. The article states:"many of these individuals were not orphans at all, but had been born to poor families which had difficulty caring for them, or to unwed mothers. Although no official tallies were kept, over a span of several decades, it has been estimated they numbered in the tens of thousands and perhaps as many as 100,000."

Unfortunately this resonates today on the subject of "mentally ill children" who are being prescribed ADHD amphetamines and anti-depressants for what is really normal childhood behavior, despite the growing evidence that these drugs are harmful, INCREASE the risk of suicide and are highly addictive.

The Church of Scientology International supports the work of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights in exposing these crimes.

Human Rights in South Africa

In the 1970’s, FREEDOM exposed psychiatric camps in South Africa, where blacks provided slave labor and cooperation was enforced with electric shock, delivered without anesthetic. FREEDOM’s charges of abuse were investigated and confirmed by the World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association.

L. Ron Hubbard worked for an end of apartheid and a better life for the people of South Africa. At the Grand Opening of the new Church of Scientology of Johannesburg, Mr. David Miscavige spoke of the work Mr. Hubbard did, and his his prediction:
“From Southern Africa will spring the next great civilisation.”
